From way out west New South Wales….”The Mill” by Windowrie Estate based in Canowindra, a quaint town with a rich heritage and home to a couple of quality producers.

“The Mill” Chardonnay, Cowra, 2014

Windowrie the Mil Chardonnay NV

From fruit grown on the Estate’s Canowindra vineyard. Just medium bodied with refreshing acidity and ‘mineral’ structure. Highlights of stonefruit amongst the frame of older French oak barrel characters. Enough complexity to be interesting without any delusions of grandeur. Good value.

RRP: $17.99

Alc: 13%

“The Mill” Cabernet / Merlot, Hilltops, 2013

Windowrie The Mill Cabernet Merlot NV

The “Hilltops” region is centred around the township of Young, NSW and is becoming well known for growing plushly flavoured Cabernet Sauvignon, with many wineries taking fruit from the area for medium priced wines.

Deep blackberry and brambles. A touch of leather and prunes. The apalte brings plenty of grainy tannin, grunting through a midfield of young black fruit. Just enough oak spice, with plummy, pruney Merlot providing polish. Finishes tight, so may need a year to open up.

RRP: $17.99

Alc: 14.5%
