Plenty of Verdelho in the Hunter Valley and can be a thin, green tropical wine, especially in the leaner years. Here Gartelmann give it some oomph.
Gartelmann, Jessica, Verdelho, Hunter Valley, 2018
A rich fruit salad of aromas: Grapey lime sherbet plus green and yellow melon aromas with greengage plum, pineapple and honeysuckle sweetness on the nose. Medium full palate with plenty of fruit to chew on, if a little blocky at times. The flavour spectrum runs the same fruit line as the nose, but with a creamy vanilla richness. Still manages to finish with a focused thrust of acidity. It’s a wine for food: try with Pork Al Pastor (don’t skimp on the grilled pineapple).
