Moving states sometimes hides things longer than they should be hidden This should have been reviewed last year as the winery has released the 2018. Apologies to the Kalleskes! Hopefully better late than never. If you’ve been sitting on one of these, here’s a view to the future.
Kalleske, Greenock, Shiraz, Barossa Valley, 2016
American and French oak. Succulent blueberry and fresh fruit cake spice aromas lead to plum juice and chocolate cake ganache sweetness. The small amount of time this has had to mature presents a balanced, seamless Barossa shiraz. Understatement of fruit as it still seems hidden under a flannel blanket of structure. Tannins present as remaining knotted tight for the now and the immediate future. The lingering black and blue fruits are light, belying the stated alcohol content. A very good wine indeed.
