John Vickery is long acknowledged as one of the legends of Australian Riesling. In 2019, the baton for custodianship of the winemaking was passed to Keeda Zilm. Keeda is no slouch around Riesling, having spent 15 years at O’Leary Walker, also in the Clare Valley. For the White Label, most of the fruit is sourced from the reliable Koerner Vineyard and one parcel from the Castine Vineyard. The vines age between 18 and 42 years old.
Vickery, White Label, Watervale, Riesling, Clare Valley, 2017
A hue of pale yellow with green highlights. Aromas of lime peel, dour wet stones, native blossom and hints of herbaceous sage. Flavoursome bittersweet lime running over a finely wrought, understated, just-chalky texture. Intense, puckering dry long finish which turns the screws tight.
