Shaw + Smith Pinot Noir 2019

Sourced from S+S’s own vineyard in Lenswood. The vintage provided a “challenge” and delivered low yields. The evolution of this label has been great to see and I wonder if it is in no small part to the rise and rise of sister brand, Tolpuddle, also made by the S+S team now capably lead by winemaker Adam Wadewitz and all round rockstar David LeMire MW

Shaw + Smith, Pinot Noir, Adelaide Hills, 2019

Fragrant and one to keep inhaling: pink chalk, English rose petal, just sliced earthy rhubarb, dark cherry, bramble, blood orange, smoked meats (turkey/ham), some flinty match strike, green peppercorn stalk and varietal woody spice. The palate flows smoothly like a silken gown and the supple tannin ably supports the concentrated palate with fine persistence from start to finish. There’s a needle prick at the finish of acidity to leave a brightness through quality savoury spice. A very good wine indeed.
