Said it before and I’ll say it again, Franco D’Anna and the team are producing wonderful wines at incredible prices.
Pairing this alongside its sibling, the Wickhams Road Gippsland Pinot Noir, this seems a little more fruit forward on the nose….bolder and bigger framed. Longer in length and a touch high in quality. I reviewed the Gippsland and other Hoddles Creek wines in my regular Weekend Magazine wine column that appears in the Queensland Times and many other newspapers.
Hoddles Creek Estate, Wickhams Road Pinot Noir Yarra Valley 2015
Black raspberry and cherry “fruits of the forest,” spiced and juicy nose complements a hint of gamey meat, forest floor completed with a whisp of smoke. Lovely balance of those darker fruits, still so soft with the right amount of fine grained tannins that will see this sit comfortably for 5 years. Spice from a touch of whole bunch adds zest and zip. If you don’t have 2 dozen of these in your cellar, get some now, because you’ll find it so bloody hard to only have one stashed away. Incredible value.
RRP: $18
