Nick Spencer and Hamish Young have seemingly managed to pull off a magic trick. How do you get such full fruit flavour in a red wine that is stated as being akin to most Chardonnay alcohol levels in Australia?
Eden Road, Shiraz, Gundagai, 2013
The vineyard is ironstone over granite, aged for 15 months in puncheons of 1 and 3 year old oak. Crisp meat skins (think pork crackle or young lamb chops) perfumed violets, choc/nut candy bar, blueberry and fresh leather. Smooth, creamy and understated. Rolling dark blue/purple fruits punch forward through savoury salty mid palate before tight chocolate and sandy tannins complete the tableau. Shows promise of a great future.
