I have a friend, a colleague, who says he wants to like Longview more than he does. He says that whilst the quality is there, he often feels underwhelmed by the wines, that they could be next level but they’re just not there for him…Yet. Maybe, just maybe, this one will push him over the edge.
Longview Vineyard Macclesfield, Adelaide Hills, Chardonnay, 2015
Perfect ripe chardonnay smells of grilled figs, perfumed Jersey caramels, barley water, butter scotch and lemon curd. Make no mistake, this is in the soap opera star Blonde territory of structure, but still holds gravitas and class. Creamy citrus leads to refined Adelaide Hills minerality/quartz before nutty oak fills it all out again. Acid is in check but relevant to add to overarching complexity. Buxom, but not voluptuous and ultimately drinkable with structure to hold for a few years.
RRP: $40
Alc: 13.8%
