The Pizzinis are breeding horses for courses and in this case, they’re understanding the areas of the vineyard that “naturally produce softer more elegant styles of Nebbiolo” in order to create La Volpe. Truth in labeling, the fox appears on the label along with the peacock and the chooks.
Pizzini, La Volpe, Nebbiolo, King Valley 2014
Slick cherry aromas with deep Turkish Delight, used coffee grounds and some smoky herbs. Just medium bodied palate dances between rose water, cherry fruit and well structured, drying tannin. Acid is a little sharp for enjoying solo but would accompany earthy roast duck or turkey with aplomb.
