Peter Douglas, wine maker for DiGiorgio spent time in Bordeaux with Chateau Leoville Barton, this may have where the bug for Bordeaux blends came from.
DiGiorgio Family Wines, “Emporio,” Coonawarra 2014
Blend of Merlot 48%, Cabernet Sauvignon 45%, Cabernet Franc 7%. Aged 18 Months in French and American oak barriques and hogsheads, (20% new, 40% second use, 40% old oak). Nose of rich purple plum, chocolate, mint, cassis and pouch tobacco framed by violets. Sweet and juicy, but such a good time wine palate. Sour/sweet plums wrap themselves in blackcurrant before cabbage rose-red fruits before dusty, persistent tannins draw things to a close and the oak gives an echo of sweetness. Good drinking.
RRP: $26
