The Adelaide Hills are fast becoming the stronghold for this Austrian variety. As usual, Longview have nailed the packaging.
Longview, KÜHL, Gruner Veltliner, Adelaide Hills, 2016
KÜHL by name and by cool by nature. Grapefruit, apricot stone fruit, rocket/arugula herbs and slate like stones. Groovy palate, structure and body with “mineral-water” like minerality. There’s an iced tea phenolic/tannin grip as well as a slightly viscous quality that has the potential to slip into oiliness but manages to hold on. Crisp, spicy and big enough to manage the main course, but enough acidity to keep it for earlier on in the meal. The vines are young and there’s plenty of promise. Great value for something different.
RRP: $25
Alc: 11.5%
