Whilst Hentley are firmly planted in the Barossa, they do source riesling from the Eden valley, but in order to satisfy the zeitgeist, they’ve reached to the neighbouring Adelaide Hills. No surprise that the vineyard name is a colloquial saying for the cold temperatures that the Adelaide Hills can plummet to.
Hentley Farm Brass Monkey Vineyards Pinot Grigio, Adelaide Hills 2016
Tries to find a balance between the crisp Grigio style and a worked quality of Gris. The colour is a dull flax. The right nashi pear, a touch of grapefruit, lime pith, vanilla and aperitif spirit (maybe due to barrel work on some of the fruit). Light to Medium bodied. Just ripe pear varietal flavours, green apple, some wheatgerm like depth and light lime citrus. Acid seems a little blunted by the barrel work. Pleasant brown spice aftertaste. Only the 4th release of this wine made specifically for restaurants.
