One of a handful of wines left over from a friend’s WSET tasting. Erath are based in Dundee, Oregon, “with the Willamette River on one side and the wine world-famous Dundee Hills on the other, this small town has one of the most beautiful locations in the Willamette Valley” according to local Oregon journalist, Terry Richard. Ah, nothing like a bit of parochialism! This wine imported into Australia by Santé Wines.
Erath, Pinot Noir, Oregon, 2014
Full of red cherry fruit and thyme herbs. Brown spice and almost caramel provide a distraction until a meaty, forest floor. Some green stalks poke through towards the finish as it washes that sour cherry clean, if a little dilute, with surprising acidity. A pleasant immigrant.
