Jacob Stein is building a stronghold in the central north of New South Wales for fine, beautifully crafted Rieslings. This is a justifiable gold medal winner.
Robert Stein, Half Dry, RS10, Riesling, Mudgee, 2016
Half the pick was whole bunch pressed and the 10 grams of residual sugar nudges this into “Half Dry” territory and provides wonderful contrast. Hints of lime citrus tart, bittersweet pineapple core, cumquat conserve, bath powder and bazaar smoke. Juicy mounts of acidity with a crystalline, crunchy feel that feels exceptionally clean with the residual sugar hardly noticeable on the palate. Another vintage, another cracking wine.
