To paraphrase Fatboy Slim’s seminal album cover, when you’re number one, why try harder? Western Australia consistently produces the best of these blends.
West Cape Howe, Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Western Australia, 2016
Harbaceous and fruit driven, there are suggestions of blackcurrant leaf and preserved lemon. The taste is spot on: WCH winemaker Gavin Berry nails what this style is all about: fresh, clean flavours with kiwi fruit, gooseberry and even some mandarin-like citrus. Bright acidity closes the deal. Reliable, consistent.
