From the famed Lusatia Park vineyard, once owned by the Shelmerdines, but now cared for by the De Bortoli family.
Riorret, Lusatia Park, Chardonnay, Yarra Valley, 2016
Layered and expressive. Doughy pastry, light oak cake, crème anglaise, soft clove, soy candle and almost orange richness citrus. Balanced sulfides providing exhausted said candlewick. A well textured wine without being coarse. Fruit makes a firm statement before giving way to refreshing acidity, mineral drive and that wonderful grip. Drinking window is well open for the next ten years, but else roast pork and crackling or crispy chicken.
