McLaren Vale Cabernet isn’t the usual combination, but Serafino do it better than most: Trophy at the 2016 McLaren Vale Wine (as Best Icon Wine along with 2009 and 2012) and gold medals at the 2017 Royal Sydney Wine Show & 2017 Decanter Asia Wine Awards. Impressive.
Serafino, Cabernet Sauvignon, McLaren Vale, 2015
Deep cassis with a slightly burnt (McLaren Vale) rubber note. A freshness to the herbal spectrum of the cabernet here as the aromas evoke just damp native forest before inky purple fruit. The palate is plush, plump cabernet, but avoids simplicity: the mineral spectrum of McLaren Vale is prevalent as it runs like a stony strip along the middle of chary black and purple fruits. The tannins are firm without being domineering. A salubrious bent underneath a firm cabernet structure.
