Vintage 2015 for Coonawarra gave a warm spring, advancing the flowering by about two weeks, promoting “fast and even berry set, like other outstanding vintages such as 2004 and 2010.” It stayed dry until mid-January, when 90mm of rain fell. Cool nights and warm days allowed for even ripening. A good vintage for sure.
Katnook, Founder’s Block, Shiraz, Coonawarra, 2015
Good varietal nose with plenty of pepper and licorice over meaty plum and blackberry. Seems a little simple: fruit sweet with plush berries and the bitter licorice note. Finishes with mouth coating sandy, sour tannins and angular acidity. Pairing with food helps settle it down a little.
