From biodynamically grown fruit in the Kangarilla region of McLaren Vale. Wild yeast fermented with 8 months maturation in 100% old French oak. The wine was filtration, with no fining. Made by legend of the vine Peter Fraser.
Yangarra Estate, Old Vine Grenache, McLaren Vale, 2015
Contrasts abound the perfume: Deep raspberry before salt & vinegar chips, balsamic sweet/sour, fat plump raisins (not those pissy little sultanas in a little box), wet sand, maraschino cherry and a thicket of garrigue. Layers and layers of deep red fruit flavour with a savoury meaty off-set, finished off with sublime tannins. There’s a sneaky hook of glycerol power towards the end but it punctuates the finish perfectly. If you don’t think Grenache is a serious wine, this is one to give you a moment of pause.
