Bunkers wines are a sublabel of Calneggia Family Vineyards and named after famous surf breaks on the Margaret River coast line in Western Australia. This label named after Supertubes where “the hum of perfectly formed barrels off Smith’s beach has lured many.” Winemaker is Brian Fletcher.
Bunkers, Supertubes, Pinot Grigio, Pemberton, 2017
The wine carries the tiniest amount of tint: a soft gold colour. Heavily perfumed with poaching pear, light honeycomb, citrus pith, white flowers, bath powder and a nutty almond character. No trace of surfboard wax though. Not quite heavy but relatively full with crisp pear, a little grapefruit and briny salty hints, like a quick dunk of the head under the waves. Well put together.
