Pewter badging on the bottle makes this standout from your average $14 wine.

Berton Vineyards, Winemaker’s Reserve, Shiraz, Padthaway, 2016

Dense purple, almost black in the glass. Spiced aromas of fruitcake, twiggy lavender, white pepper, deep plum, blackberry and rich vanilla. Brooding and rich: polished plum skin and blackberry flesh with oodles of pepper. Firm and full tannins providing a strong backbone before double shot coffee finishes the deal. Certainly a lot worse wines out there for more dollars.
