This single vineyard shiraz is part of the McLaren Vale Scarce Earth project. It aims to highlight the impacts of the geology of the region. The Serafino website still has the 2014 available for purchase. Winemaker is Charles Whish.
Serafino, Malpas Vineyard, Shiraz, McLaren Vale, 2015
Lovely colour, deep garnet with purple edges. Plump, plush aromas of black cherry, plum and deep raspberry off-set by minerally gun shot and clove spice. Has an impulse and an energy: the minerally graphite undertone pushes the fruit to the fore with a rush. Only old oak used, pure fruit derived tannins blend harmoniously with bright red berries and McLaren Vale choco/spice regionality. The finish is long and seamless.
