Sourced from WCH’s most “mature” vineyards. 18 months in French Oak. Note that the winery has just rolled onto the 2016 vintage (available via the website) but this vintage is still readily available.
West Cape Howe, Book Ends, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mount Barker, 2015
Deeply coloured with very slow moving ‘legs’ in the glass. Plum cake and blackcurrant dominate the nose with light boysenberry-purple fruit, campfire smoke, pencils and black tea. Fine and supple palate. Persistent subtle tannins take their time to quieten quality black and plum fruit characters, finishing off with a smoky coda. Further maturation will not be a problem, yet neither will be draining the bottle if opened now.
