Zinfandel. Primitivo. Po-tay-to….Po-tah-to. Australia doesn’t produce a lot of Zin. Of note: New South Wales has Cargo Road and Lowe while Cape Mentelle have a prestige label. While the vintage roll has just occurred to the 2018, there’ll probably be some of this about. Vegan friendly.
Kalleske, Fordson, Zinfandel, Barossa Valley, 2017
Spice cabinet driven nose with cloves, ginger, molasses, licorice and deep potted black fruits with a spearmint lift. Waxy and full palate: layered and complex with the bright purple and black fruits interweaving with the surprisingly fine yet persistent tannin. A considered finish with gravitas make for a unique wine.
