While the Heggies Vineyard, 500 metres above sea level in the Eden Valley, is predominantly known for well-aged rieslings, chardonnay is also treated with respect. The wines are crafted by Teresa Heuzenroder.
Heggies Vineyard, Estate, Chardonnay, Eden Valley, 2017
Rich aromas dominate the beginning. Toasty oak with a buttery schmear before the awaited arrival of citrus: Running the spectrum to grapefruit/mandarin, skin primarily, some flesh. Smoke willows. Oak front on the palate: fruit quietened down before narrow, yet long crunchy/waxy texture, almost earthy and briny. Bittersweet citrus juice/acidity to finish. Settle young child and take your time. It seems integration will be coming soon.
