Unfortunately this year has seen the number of reviews slip a little, regrettably I’ve not been able to publish as frequently as I’d like. As such, this wine is probably sitting in people’s wine racks rather than being readily available on shelves. It did have a quick burn of bright light fame on a popular wine discounting site. So if you’re one of the many who may have this tucked away, here’s my thoughts.
Warner Glen Estate, The Pick, Reserve, Chardonnay, 2017
Oak treatment first and foremost with ginger spice: rich stonefruit, Earl Grey tea, creamy nougat and Margaret River sea spray. Good stone fruit profile with just enough nutty oak enrichment. Some buttery elements to nod to the old school and warm sunshine in Margs, but a clean pair of heels ensures a balanced finish.
