An ever reliable budget choice from the north west regions of Victoria. The label part of the River to Vine series, paying homage to the (ever decreasing) water source for the vineyards in the Murray River.
Deakin Estate, Shiraz, Victoria, 2018
Light and bright cherry/plum jam with shiny blackberry hints, vanilla paste and a little dried woody spice. Fresh and juicy, yet more importantly: varietal. Has plenty of plums and red currant fruit. Oak influence minimal, save for a suggestion. Tannins are tiny firm rumbles. Sure, the flavour finishes somewhat short, but then the intent is simplicity for the price.
