In these crazy times of Coronavirus/Covid19 Isolation, it certainly has allowed some positives of getting through some of the backlogs that life manages to build up. I found this one among the sample pile that for some reason I’d not got around too. Huntington Estate now have the 2015 available, so if you’re lucky enough to have this one in the collection, here’a glimpse of how it’s travelling. Note:  The bottle image label shows 2012 vintage, but nothing save that year has changed.

Huntington Estate, Special Reserve, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mudgee, 2014

Dark and brooding. piles of dark choc over dense black currant, spicy/herby bay, bushfire eucalypt, boot polish, cedary oak and a meaty, earthy depth. The palate full and strong. Certainly a wine with plenty of character for those that enjoy a solid wall of earthy black flavour, lightened just enough with a juicy purple vibrancy. While a day’s opening has softened the tannins, they remain omnipresent and deliver a fine carpet for the fruit to lay across. A keeper for easily another 15 years.
