The grey label on the V&A (Victoria and Albert) Lane wines gives a timeless appeal and quality to the wines. While they don’t yet have the legacy that Black Label does, these are a cut above in elegance and refinement, and are some of Coonawarra’s finest expressions. Sarah Pidgeon, long serving alongside Sue Hodder gets her deserved time in the sun with these labels. Also worth noting that the price hasn’t shifted since the 2014 releases.
Wynns Coonawarra Estate, V&A Lane Shiraz, Coonawarra, 2021

Deep garnet with a bright rim. Regional freshness of mint skirts “Belgian” sea shell chocolate, ripe plum halves, cranberry and blueberry. There’s a flaky pastry crispness to the nose, too. Elegance and angles. Super light on its feet but still full bodied and fleshy. Focus and drive with an impelling length. Lingering floral echoes and hyperfine, plentiful tannins.
