The Cloth Label wines of Moorilla pay homage to the founder of the Estate, Claudio Alcorso. You can read more about him on my review of the last release.
This release is a blend of fruit from the St Matthias vineyard in the north of Tasmania with the breakdown being Riesling (22%), Sauvignon Blanc (20%), Chardonnay (20%), Gewurztraminer (14%), Pinot Gris (11%) and a little Pinot Noir (11%) for seasoning. Winemaker is Conor Van Der Reest.
Moorilla, Cloth Label, White Blend, Tasmania, 2017

Colour has a deepness to the straw, imparting some skin time and depth from the blend. A nose of counterpoints: Jersey Caramels, latté froth, crushed brown pear, fresh bread slices, roast nuts, grilled lime, honeycomb, melon rind and savoury, oxidative notes. Creamy and somewhat unctuous. Protein-like, umami richness (like a sharp hard cheese) cut deeply with intense acidity. Textural and dry with eye opening contrasts. A unique beast.
