The new Alfresco range from Berton are released just in time for enjoying with food as the days get longer and warmer Aranel originates from the Languedoc region of South Western France where it was created in 1961 by “grape breeder” Paul Truel. A vinous child of parents Grenache Gris and Saint-Pierre Doré (an almost-extinct white grape from the Auvergne region in central France).
Berton Vineyards, Alfresco, Aranel, Riverina, 2022

Very pale straw colour with green highlights. Soft talc and cotton-like nose with hints of tropical yellow fruit and lime citrus. Simple and generically flavoured as per the nose: round yellow tropicals and easy citrus. A little tart acidity and talc to the texture, but finishes very short and is found wanting.
