Sourced from the Ancestor vines (planted 1889) in the Yalumba Tri-Centenary block. The move to screwcap is welcomed (though the orange wax was funky). Winemaker is Kevin Glastonbury, who may have forgotten he was making this wine as it has a 250 day post-ferment maceration.
Yalumba, The Tri-Centenary, Grenache, Barossa Valley, 2021

How this still only $65? Floral and complex. Cherries, raspberries, citrus skin, rose petals, chalk, a little charcuterie and crushed kitchen herbs. Silky and spicy, studded with green peppercorns and superfine tannin. There’s plenty of bite and a slightly ferrous edge. Chew and length, this is a delicious and textural variation of usual slick Grenache programming.
RRP: $65
Alc: 14%
Rating: 95/100
