Dalrymple’s main workhorse Fruit from both ends of Tasmania and a bit in the middle: Pipers River, Coal River Valley, and from the Derwent midlands at Ouse (pronounced “ooze”). Vigneron is Peter Caldwell.
Dalrymple, Pinot Noir, Tasmania, 2022
Lovely garnet to ruby edges. Earthy depths with plenty of fleshy cherry, a little choc orange, five spice and sweet oak kisses. Seductive and spiced. A slightly fuller expression and each of the vineyards adding their own part to the blend. Whole bunches in the ferment adds to the slight astringency of the fine tannins, but Pete Caldwell knows just how to use them as seasoning, rather than letting them dominate. Good length through the tail as it finishes bright and clean. Another dependable and solid release.
