Part of Flametree’s upper echelon wines. See my review of the 2014 for the descriptions of the Sub Regions of Margaret River. This release (one of the good things to come out of 2020) had 16 months maturation in French oak (45%) new. Chief winemaker is the lauded Cliff Royle.
Flametree, SRS Wilyabrup, Cabernet Sauvignon, Margaret River, 2020
Dark garnet with a bright and energetic rim. Complex and layered: Violets, bay leaf, blackcurrant, choc-raspberry with an umami nori note over 2B pencil lacquer and elegant oak spice. The nose finishes with class and a lightness. Focused and elegance, with a touch of salt kissed dreadlocks and sandy skin. Black fruit and plentiful, fine tannins form the structure with freshness and life from the acid drive. Just starting to come into its own skin but will develop over the next decade comfortably.
