Aces & Arrows is a side project for the Pernod Ricard winemakers. Each maker gets to have a hands on role in the whole creative process. Here we have a 2020 Adelaide Hills Grüner Veltliner as put together by Winemaker Tim. Once the ferment was complete, 10% was matured in old French oak while the balance was racked from gross ferment lees and stored in tank. The oak portion received monthly bâtonnage for four and a half months before being blended back with the tank parcels. Okay, so parking the fact that this ‘new release’ is almost 4 years old, let’s just judge it for what’s in the glass. Nice packaging for what it’s worth…
Aces & Arrows, Grüner Veltliner, Adelaide Hills, 2020

Still a pristine pale straw colour. Oak work jumps out with baking dough, spice and vanilla, grapefruit, lemon and lime citrus, white nectarine, sweaty dill, ginger, ash and a little green melon. The palate a touch on the flabby and hollow side, then finishes fairly quickly. Some interest with a little phenolic grip, spice acidity. Ensure to serve cold and drink now
