Yet again a blend of Freeman’s Hilltops vineyard and the Will’s Hill vineyard in Pokolbin (Hunter).
Essentially a barrel blend designed to be upfront approachable red.
Gundog Estate, Smoking Barrel, Shiraz, Hunter Valley, Hilltops, 2022

Bruise purple with bright rim. Baked ham, clove studs, peppercorns, stewing rhubarb, brushed velvet, plum jam, ferrous steel and soft cedar. Easy fruit up front with soft spice and a dusty rumble. A little elbows and knees angularity at the moment. Waxy and firm tannins that tack before bright and cleansing acidity before a touch of bitter char and spice. Plenty to enjoy, just give it a decent decant to bring the pieces together.
