Aces & Arrows Grenache 2022

Aces & Arrows is a side project for the Pernod Ricard winemakers. Each maker gets to have a hands on role in the whole creative process, this one comes from Winemaker Mick. They’ve only just released the labels and the first Grenache was a 2019 that I only reviewed a couple of months ago, so I’m glad to see a fresher release (and a drop in ABV). I assume the winemaking will be similar with a mix of stainless steel and (older?) French oak and whole bunch parcels in the ferments.

Aces & Arrows, Grenache, Barossa Valley, 2022

AA-GrenacheDeep ruby to garnet. Dried herb dusted red currant, raspberry and cherry fruit with cabbage rose petal, blood orange, a lick of anise and boysenberry. Just medium bodied with an easy red fruit focus and smooth flow. Tannins are akin to a kitten’s lick and don’t turn up to the show until late, drying and spreading neatly. The finish is clean with Grenache’s herby influence the coda. Showing its best as a fresh drink now kind of style, with perhaps even ability for chill to match a spicy lamb and eggplant tagine.
