Last week saw the 26th of May as International Chardonnay Day. Maybe we can reframe it as Chardonn-May? This release sees 9 months in oak. Chief winemaker is the lauded (and rightly so) Cliff Royle.

Flametree, Chardonnay, Margaret River, 2023

Pale lemon in colour. Showing signature Margaret River sea spray with spring evening blossoms. Some fig, nectarine, preserved lemon and grapefruit There’s a little creaminess from a touch of malolactic fermentation and biscuity, nutty savoury elements. Instantly attractive with fleshy fruit of bittersweet citrus and stone fruit offset with a savoury, minerally base and a little spice. There’s a quiet sense of control through the tail, being prescise and clean. Top value.
