While this one doesn’t always score the highest among the releases ( I may be miserly), it’s the one I most enjoy reviewing for its uniqueness. Probably the only blend of this in the world. Made from Riesling, Gewürztraminer and the uncommon Kerner (Weisser Herold) from the Fechner Vineyard. Described as “One Vineyard. Three Germanic Luminaries. One Aromatic Explosion.” Co-fermented and bottled un-fined. Winemakers are Daniel Chaffey Hartwig, Theo Engela and Huon Fechner.
Chaffey Bros. Wine Co., DÜFTE PUNKT, Eden Valley, 2024
An assault of aromas. Rosewater, potpourri, preserved lemon, golden apple flesh, peach skin, packet taco seasoning, sea spray, roast chicken chips/crisps, fresh ginger, tobacco and white stones. Intensity ratcheted up as the framework holds firm. Acidity matching the palate weight, making for a hefty, yet cracking release. Stony, saline, bittersweet/savoury through the long finish. Yes please.
