The relaunched Ivyburn label from CW Wines sees some heavy packaging and big wines. This fruit from old vines grown on the ‘sloping foothills of the Barossa ranges.’
Ivyburn, Regional Series, Shiraz, Barossa Valley, 2021

Deep bruise purple in colour. Full Barossa on show: pencils and black peppercorns over mocha, black cherry, chunky blood plums, slightly herbal/leafy element with sweet vanilla kisses. Char grilled meats (with pepper sauce, of course), rough hewn oak and just baked tea cake (with glacé fruit). Power, with restraint. Doesn’t fall into flabby opulence and maintains a fine rumble of mouth coating tannins through the firm lines. Good persistence and lift with a fine focus.
