With fruit taken from the Freeman vineyard in the Hilltops region. This is the big brother of the two “Hilltops Shiraz” range.
Note: Bottle image has vintage 2021, but naught has changed save for the year stamp.
Gundog Estate, Hilltops Shiraz No.1, Hilltops, 2023
Medium garnet with bright ruby edges. Fragrant, rose petals, Choc mint, clove, soaking plums in their juice, choc ganache, gun flint, bluestone, warm tea bun, play dough and pink salt. Spiced and angular, there’s a leanness of body with woody and green spice finally opening to big dark berry fruit. Throw in some char and regional acid lift, with a waxy mouth coating finish.
RRP: $36
Alc: 12.9%
Rating: 91/100
