Sourced from Tinkler’s (ex-Lindeman’s and part of the famed Ben Ean vineyards) red soiled 1948 block. Made by Matt Burton and the team  to encapsulate the spirit of “Hunter Burgundy” just medium bodied style. 16 months maturation in 100% French oak (25% new). At time if writing, the 2022 is still available on the website.

Gundog Estate, Rare Game, Shiraz, Hunter Valley, 2023

Deep garnet with a bright ermine rim. Turkish Delight, choc and rosewater nose. Red fruit raspberry, rose petals, bluestone, green peppercorn/dry jungle curry spice, touches of vanilla sweet oak, ice coffee, earthy truffle and a hint of cigar leaf. Sleek and supple flesh, tannins are hyper fine. Red forest berry fruit, underpinned with that truffle/earthy tone (almost ferrous and meaty). There’s a drying tension through the tail that lightens the whole experience. Drink now or in 2035 without any concerns. Another cracking release from the Gundog team.
