Budget and environmentally friendly, HSFE (formerly branded as Yalumba) have released their entries in the No-Lo market. Winemaker is Kiki Han.
Y Series, Lighter, Shiraz, South Australia, 2023

Deep garnet hue. Solid varietal aromas with plenty of spices: black pepper and clove. The fruit profile is all plums and strawberries, off set with a touch of meatiness and dried herbs. The palate weight and length is where the wine shows its true colours. Starts out all fine and SA Shirazy and then it all drops away and thins right out. There’s just no hiding that a reduction in the alcohol strips out that mouth feel and texture. Serve it chilled and it’ll make for a fine match for spicier curries.
