From within the Hill-Smith Family Estates ranch . Wine maker is Sam Wigan. Casks, or in this case a “bag filled with a magnum of wine” have boundless environmental benefits. Here the HSFE team have simply taken their molto successful RWB Tempranillo and popped it into 1.5L of air tight convenience. The claim is that it will also last 3-4 weeks once opened, so if you want to have a glass or two throughout the week and want freshness, this is a smart choice. Oh, and you’ll be saving the planet, too. Wins all round
Running With Bulls, Tempranillo, Barossa, 2023
Destined for fun times. Fruit straps, Morello cherries, roast hazelnuts, blackberries and blueberries. Kitchen herbs, coriander, brewed tea, turned earth and molten chocolate. Mid weight and structured. Yes it’s fruit forward, but not simple (HSFE have nailed value) with black jelly bean ju-ju plumpness, gentle kittens lick tannin rasps and a lingering moreishness. It’ll handle a chill without damaging the charm.
