Flagship Nebbiolo here from the Saturno family, the custodians of Longview. Featuring Saturn (Saturnus) etched onto the bottle, the move to screwcap is welcomed and will serve the ageing potential of this wine well.
Longview, Saturnus, Riserva, Nebbiolo, Adelaide Hills, 2022
Pale garnet. molten chocolate, crushed rose petals, hints of amaro herbs, fleshy strawberry and raspberry fruit. Savoury elements of graphite and bluestone, singed orange rind and a little bresaola reduction that blows off with some air. Potent and serious: a wine of structure with lithe tannins that unfurl and curl back in and then unfurl and curl again. Not all grip, there’s a core of red fruit that will blossom, but it is almost austere for the moment, with a wrap of creamy oak through the mid to late palate. Seriously good value.
