There’s a preconceived rusticity to Central Victorian Shiraz, but they’re made for the long haul. Crafted deliberately for the 100 Year Anniversary of the Purbrick family being custodians of the Tahbilk vineyard and winery.
Tahbilk, Centennial, Shiraz, Nagambie Lakes, 2015
Medium garnet with a soft ruby edge and a hint of red brick. Red florals and rustic oak initially, with red currants, plum sauce, bush tomato, soft clove, drinking cocoa, rare roast beef and peppercorn sauce. Developing umami suggestion of beef stock, worn leather and oaten biscuit. Handsomely mid weight, with a suave coating of fly screen-like dusty tannin supporting a coffee’d red currant and peppery profile. There’s regional cool climate flourish and an rough hewn structure which gives portent to the maturation potential of these wines.
