Bethany, First Village, Shiraz, Barossa Valley, 2023
Medium garnet to ruby. Pulped plums, blackberry, vanilla bean paste, dried peel, liqueur cherries, stock power, toffee, mocha, violets and roast pan juices. Medium to full bodied, square shouldered and a little blocky. There’s plenty of dark plums and cherries upfront with a rustic, earthy bass note. Chary to burnt ends of roast meats with a short, uncomplicated finish of a mat of drying, meshy tannin. Takes a little while to settle into itself.
