Sam and Jock Auld are the 6th generation of a family who have been intertwined in the Australian wine fabric since the mid 1800’s. The East Hill Bock is one of unique ironstone gravel with a loam transitioning to clay subsoil.
Auld Family Wines, East Hill Block, Shiraz, Barossa Valley, 2023
Opaque garnet with a vibrant rim. Initial char and toasty char before potpourri, blackberry, spent coffee, freshly turned earth, toffee, cherry medicinal hints and grilled plums. Full, yet balanced. Powdery and dry tannin underneath with Turkish spice, rosewater and cherry to red currant fruit. Steps well and brightly considering the stated ABV. Understated packaging notwithstanding, this is a fine example from the Barossa.
