Not a huge amount of Cabernet grown in the Hunter Valley, but, Margan Wines, located in the Broke Fordwich sub-region of the Hunter grow quality fruit on 40 year old vines.

Pencils, wet cassis, sweetish oak spice. Medium to full weight, with dark blackberry and fine tannins. Good balance of approachability and lean (not green) sinewy style. American oak is restrained and results in a very drinkable Cabernet.
