Label and slight name change for this little gem of a wine. Don’t tell anyone, but this is one of my favourite Pinot Gris in the land. Dare I say it, it sits towards the top of the Raïdis ladder, too.
Raïdis Estate ‘Cheeky’ Pinot Gris, Coonawarra 2015
Soft rose gold and a calming nose. Slightly nutty and familiar, pear skin and a little sweaty with a touch of creamed honey. Crisp and nutty palate. Some corella pear red fruit lift, almost mandarin citrus acidity, along with spice. Textural elements cling to the gums. There’s a gravitas to the palate for the price: this isn’t a mere plaything. Throw it at some middle eastern dishes like grilled flat bread, roasted cauliflower and tahini, and soon you’ll be dancing the dance of the seven veils. Or seven goats.
RRP: $20
